BISHOP, GA- For the second year in a row, the Athens Area Junior Golf Tour experienced nearly perfect spring-like weather conditions as it kicked off its 2017 season at Lane Creek Golf Club with the Good Hands Veterinary Hospital 4-Ball, presented by Pinnacle Bank.
And while strong scoring was on display across all age divisions, the Girls groups really came to play this weekend in a big way– highlighted by the Girls 15-18 Division. Katie Scheck of Greensboro and Ally Warnke of Snellville teamed up to fire a 2-over 73 to claim a 1-stroke victory over Lucy Walker of Monroe and Caroline Martin of Jefferson. In other Girls’ division play, Madi Chappell of Bogart and Meredith Bennett of Athens came in with an impressive 74 to take the Girls 12-14 win by just 1 shot over Reagan Folk of Madison and Kelli Scheck of Greensboro. And the 9-hole girls had to go extra holes, as the Girls 11-Under division came down to a sudden-death playoff with Kate McLean of Athens and Kylie Wilson of Monroe overcoming the team of Caroline Hinzman of Bishop and Madeline Tebeau of Athens.
However, the round of the day came from the Boys’ side, as Nate Thornton and Evan Yeargin of Elberton were simply spectacular in shooting a 2-UNDER 69 for an overwhelming victory in the Boys 14-15 Division.
