The calendar said it was still officially Summer...but on Sunday it was clearly FALL temps at the Providence Club in Monroe. The AAJGT held the Allstate-Scott Beaver Agency Fall Challenge on Sunday, September 10th in what turned out to be blustery wind conditions in remnants of Hurricane Irma.
The Athens Area Junior Golf Tour had it all going on this weekend at Monroe Golf & CC in the Pinnacle Bank Fall Kickoff ... Hole-in-One? Check. Mild temperatures with a steady breeze? Check. A 13-yr old bringing the course to its knees with a staggering 5-under round?? Check!!
Breaking away from the traditional competition of "every man for himself," the Athens Area Junior Golf Tour held the Athens Orthopedic Clinic 4-Ball Championship last weekend at Lane Creek Golf Club. The sun was out and the temperatures were hot -- but so was the scoring as several sets of partners displayed great class and teamwork in lighting up the scoreboard.
It was Stage 3 of the AAJGT's 'Summer Stretch' at The Georgia Club on Saturday, where 72 players took on the demands of a hot day, tough course, and 3rd week in a row of competition in the Oconee Well Drillers Challenge.
It might have been late July on the calendar, but the AAJGT was blessed with nearly Spring-like temperatures and lower humidity as 70 players descended on the UGA Golf Course for this weekend's Athens Ford Classic.
It was an event that initially had to be rescheduled after horrible rainstorms, but players were rewarded with a great course AND a pleasant, sunny day for golf as the Athens Area Junior Golf Tour completed the CINTERGY Challenge on Tuesday at Harbor Club on Lake Oconee.
It was a great combination of perfect golf course conditions, abundant sunshine, and milder temps with morning tee times -- which all came together to provide one of our most exciting finishes all season in the Athens Junior City Championship, presented by Bridgestone Golf, held July 10-11th at Jennings Mill Country Club.
It's been a recurring theme lately on Tour - weather-related interruptions - and once again we had to deal with weather that affected a Tournament. However, at least this one was completed on time - as several divisions had to go over 20 holes on Sunday to complete the tournament as the AAJGT held it's WAG-CPAs Summer Classic at Lane Creek Golf Club.
The Athens Area Junior Golf Tour fired up it's busy Summer Series with a thrilling day at Double Oaks Golf Club on Saturday, June 10th for the Restore Pros Summer Kickoff; and while the temperature was up it was a well-deserved sunny afternoon for some great performances on the golf course.
